Early Winter 2017 | 43 Club News outdid the guys! Thank you to the ladies who were out in force. Early winter looks promising with early November freezing temperatures and consistently cold weather to get the ground frozen. The stage is being set for a great season with early season riding not seen in a few years. If you haven’t done so already, get your TMAs either from Central Vermont Motorcycles, The Wooden Barrel, the Dammers website or directly from VAST online. Please consider supporting the Chittenden Dammers and encourage your friends to do so. You’ll be glad you did. Don’t forget that the Dammers meet the first Tuesday of the month at The Mountain Top Inn Tavern at 7 p.m. Keep in touch through our website or one of our Facebook pages. Also check us out on instagram #chittendendammers. Post some of your photos having fun on the trails. Hope to see you out on the trails soon. Mount Holly Snow Flyers “Stick season” is upon us, which means winter and the snow we’re all wishing for is right around the corner. Since the first weekend in October, we have been busy clearing and preparing our trails. Unfortunately, when cleanup was near completion, a wind and rain storm came through and all the trails had to be cleared again for debris and downed trees. By Nov. 10 we expect all our trails will be ready for the season. When hunting season is over, we’ll do one final pre-season cleanup to ensure the trails are safe and ready for opening day. Again this season, there will be ongoing logging operations in the Salt Ash area. Please use caution on the trails in this area. There will also be a new logging operation on Corridor 7 near Old Plymouth Road, which will be plowed this year. Anyone using the parking area on Old Plymouth Road will need to access Corridor 7 from the bypass trail, adjacent to the parking area. Cider Days is our primary fundraiser each year and enables us to sponsor the annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display over Star Lake in Belmont. We would like to thank everyone who supported this event so that the Snow Flyers can present the annual fireworks display for the community. A special Thank You goes out to Mary Alberty, who always does a great job representing the Snow Flyers and the community. On Oct. 28, the Snow Flyers participated in Rutland’s annual Halloween Parade. Our Defender pulled our float full of “Little Ghouls” on snowmobiles. The “Big Ghouls” had just as much fun as the little ones. Our only problem was running out of candy to pass out. Next year we are going to try a community candy drive to raise enough candy. Four big boxes full of candy was not enough! Our volunteer incentive program is in effect again this year. Reward detail information is available on the club website. We are implementing a new incentive for Snow Flyer members. For every 100 TMAs sold for our club, one lucky winner will be drawn to win a free TMA for the 2018/19 season. The Snow Flyer family would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday season. Let’s hope Bing Crosby’s favorite holiday song, “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas,” comes true this season. So are we! As a reminder, club questions or information may be directed to our website, email or Facebook. We will have taught a snowmobile safety course at Poultney Fire House on Dec. 2. We usually average 15 to 20 students. There has been an effort on the New York side of the border in Granville to complete the D&H Rail Trail connector from Castleton and Poultney, Vermont to Granville, New York, back to Pawlet, Vermont to Salem, New York to make this a year-round multi-use trail. Our club has been supporting and working on this with the New York clubs committees. A planning grant has been obtained and a company hired to figure out a plan to address the issues and make this a reality. Hopefully, in the near future we will have a connector trail making easier access between our border and villages. Our officers have initiated a membership drive to get more members to attend meetings and volunteer. We gave free membership to all landowners. If you purchase an Early Bird TMA for the 2017/18 season from our club, your name goes in for $100 cash drawing. You will be entered in a $50 cash drawing each month for members who attend meetings. When you volunteer at any three of our events, your name goes into a $100 cash drawing. Attend six or more meetings per year and receive 1/2 price membership dues. TMAs and club memberships are available on Poultney Main Street at
