Summer 2018 | 5 VAST News A message from VAST Vice President Jeff Fay The “Off Season”: hot, humid, long days, far from what we snowmobilers enjoy. We much prefer cold, snowy, long days. Yes, less daylight, but much more enjoyable. Layers can be added to stay warm, but only so much can be taken off before someone gets embarrassed. The “Off Season”: Time for catching up on the project list around the house and spending family time doing summer things like barbecues, beaches, boats, bonfires and maybe a little beer. The “Off Season”: Grant applications to fill out for trail work, grooming equipment and repairs, projects to plan for the coming months to improve our trails. The “Off Season”: Events to plan for fun and fundraising, new ideas or a different twist on an old one. Worst hand poker ride? The “Off Season”: Unfortunately, the business side of snowmobiling doesn’t stop when the snow melts. Planning for the continued health of the sport is a year-round endeavor. There are meetings to attend, topics to discuss and decisions to be made to guide the association in the right direction. Your input is important in the process. Get involved with your club or plan to attend Annual Meeting, which is where the membership has a voice and the ear of the VAST officers, staff and directors. Join us in September at the Abbey! Check out vtvast.org for more information. (PSA brought to you by the Clubs of Franklin County, the hosts for this year’s Annual Meeting.) The “Off Season”: That mythical period of time when our sleds sit silently, waiting for that first crisp snowfall of December. That mythical period of time when our gear sits piled in the corner of the laundry room waiting for that once a year freshening up (okay, maybe that’s just my gear piled in heap in the corner.) The “Off Season”: Enjoy it while you can! Winter will be here before Christmas. The calendar says so, but Mother Nature may have other plans though! He found it on page 10. A couple of the funniest responses: “Uh... Houston, we have a problem! There appears to be a helmet on one of our satellites.” – Rich Conte “Some-where, over the VAST trails.. way up high!” – Bill Lenz Can you find the helmet in this issue?
